White Hat Flex News is a magazine theme with section column front page, featured slider, latest news ticker and category colors. No jQuery and no external libraries: native JavaScript and icons drawn within the theme itself.
It was created for a publication that came from a classic magazine theme and didn’t want to rebuild its front page from scratch. Therefore it preserves the same widget areas and the same options: when activated, the site continues to look as it did, and from there it improves.
No jQuery, and you can tell
The majority of magazine themes carry jQuery and two or three libraries for the carousel, menu and tabs. That’s several hundred kilobytes that the reader downloads before reading a headline. Here all of that is written in native JavaScript, which browsers have supported for years.
Designed for the reader, not just the publisher
The theme brings elements that are noticeable on the reader side: article index, view counter, embedded YouTube videos without loading their scripts until someone clicks, and reading settings. And on the editorial side, an options box in each post to decide its presentation without touching templates.
The front page is built by section columns
Each front‑page block is a section of the publication with its own color, number of headlines and layout. They can be ordered without touching code, and the color is carried over to the article: someone opening a sports news story sees sports before reading the headline. It’s a small cue that in a magazine with many sections saves the reader half the effort of orienting themselves.
On top sits the featured slider, for what opens the day, and the latest‑news ticker, which is the piece that keeps the front page alive when the big story of the day hasn’t arrived yet.
What it doesn’t do
It is not a neutral theme that works for any business: it is built for publications with many sections and a lot of movement. A six‑page corporate website works better with White Hat Core.
It also does not include a live TV player or a programming grid; that is a separate component.
It also does not inherit the exact look of the theme a publication comes from. It preserves the content areas — which is what avoids rebuilding the front page — but the design is different, cleaner and faster. It’s worth saying this before the switch: anyone expecting nothing to be noticeable will notice something.
How it is delivered and what it includes
Everything we publish here originated from a real commission, and that’s how it continues to be delivered: installed, documented and with the code in the name of the payer. Maintenance — updates with prior backup, security review and a margin of hours for small changes — is contracted separately.
You can see the rest of the pieces in our catalog of themes and plugins, or tell us what your site needs: the initial diagnosis is free and from there we determine whether something custom is appropriate or adapt what already exists.
